About Tavia Lynn Kallison

I began piano lessons at age 6 with a very disciplined schedule: one hour a day, seven days a week, including all holidays and birthdays! At age 14, I began teaching my younger sister who was then 7 years old. She had asked our mother if she could begin piano lessons, I became her teacher and soon after that other mothers in the neighborhood called up to have their children take lessons, as well. My parents offered me a savings account for the money I earned. It was a modest amount of money earned, but whatever money I would deposit in a bank account, they would match that sum. It taught me to save money and eventually it paid for a trip to Hawaii for the summer, through U.C.L.A.'s summer school in Hawaii. Eventually, I became serious about studying the piano. Through my music store, he had recommended Edith Knox, as the best teacher in the city at that time. Miss Knox was a graduate of the famed Julliard school of music in N.Y.. While Miss Knox was at Julliard, she studied with a professor who had been a pupil of the romantic Russian composer, Sergei Rachmaninoff. Miss Knox had performed at Los Angeles's Hollywood Bowl, so she was quite accomplished.
I practiced 4 hours a day, studying concerto's. Then during the afternoons I would teach for 4 hours. I now had mostly adults, and began developing the pre-instrument program called, "The Keyboard Kidz" which was the pre-cursor of "The Musical Wannabes". I taught this program in Beverly Hills and the surrounding areas, which included celebrities both parent and children. Once the children completed their series, 8 week sessions, they would begin their private lessons with me. I was amazed that the child would glide through the reading of notes and I could concentrate on their technique. "The Keyboard Kidz" program was 100% successful and now I wish to bring this program which is now called, "The Musical Wannabes," to all kids everywhere in the world. Most importantly, exposing children to a fun and entertaining way of learning music.
My art Background:
At the age of 12, my mother found me the most wonderful art teacher, Mrs Merideth. I'd walked to her home each week and in her basement were easels set up with oil paints. We'd pick prints of the masters and French Impressionists. We were then taught how to copy their style, I absolutely loved my lessons. Once I became an adult, I studied with a man named Kwok Wai Lau and he had graduated from the Chicago Art Institute. I concentrated on abstracts, the good ones were not easy to do. At this time I was commissioned and sold many paintings. I was very serious at that time about art.
But it has been the marriage of these two art forms, music & art, that I bring to you, "The Musical Wannabes." Although the program is geared for the young, It definitely benefits adults by explaining how and why each musical symbol came about, making sense of all the dots and dashes.
